In Echoes of Grace, Luchandro Franca explores the vulnerability within the current generation of the black community. By capturing his model in a way that demonstrates vulnerability but also strength, Franca aims to illustrate how vulnerability within the black community can surface in unexpected ways and quiet moments, often subconsciously. 
Intrigued by the photograph of Melba Moore &#38;nbsp;taken by Jack Robison, he decides to explore why this specific photograph resonated so deeply with him. This led him to use this photograph as an inspiration for Echoes of Grace. Heritage Mosaic

Heritage Mosaic is a project that focuses on the topics surrounding heritage, tradition and identity.


The name “Heritage Mosaic”, comes from the definition of “Mosaic”. Diverse elements coming together, becoming one. Same way our DNA is composed. Since I’m a Dutch born Curaçaoënaar, I have been feeling disconnected from my culture and roots.


To seek understanding of the Antillian traditions and the origin of them, I collaborated with individuals who share 
the same cultural background as me. By talking to different generations within the culture I am to gain a deeper understanding of the roots to shape my own identity. But also how the importance of these traditions within the newer generation has lessened significantly or even faded away. 
I hope to uncover the origins of these traditions and their influence in shaping the cultural foundation I was raised within.


Recognizing that these aspects are essential to understanding myself, I decided to create work that explores these topics in greater depth. My goal is to inspire others to engage more deeply with their own native traditions and heritage, uncovering the stories and roots that define them. I hope this will encourage a renewed appreciation, celebration, and preservation of these cultural practices.

A few years ago I left my hometown. But I noticed that I didn’t feel at ease or welcomed in the new neighborhood. I would often get stared at while doing normal household things like throwing away the trash.

I feel like an outsider.
I started to think as to what my home could be, so I looked up what the definition of home is.
By asking myself questions as to what home means to me, I started to think of my family and the people closest to me. I started thinking about the place I grew up on and the island my parents were born on as we often visited it and a big part of my family still lives there.
The way the project is shot, is to go through my safe spaces, what I consider my peace and my home. By using a black cloth I create a “black void” in the images. By creating the voids I “remove myself” in the image and give the viewers a chance to position themselves in my position. That way they can imagine their own “home”.
By mixing the images with written text, I want people to not only be able to visibly connect with the images. But also be able to connect with the written aspect of a search for “home”.

The recent BLM protests have made me delve more into the subject and what effect it has on the black community. I then started thinking about what it did to me.
My partner also has a similar situation. She is of Asian descent. There are currently many protests and demonstrations going on about racism towards these 2 communities. In connection with all the demonstrations and protests, there are many emotions and frustrations being expressed. Collectively, people of color go through an emotional rollercoaster.
