From Crown to Durag
From Crown to Durag is a photographic exploration of the durag as both a symbol of
cultural heritage and a canvas for self expression. Rooted in utility protecting textured hair and preserving the crown the durag has evolved into something far more visible, intentional, and expressive.
This series centers individuals who wear durags not just as haircare tools, but as fashion,
statement, and identity. Styled, tied, and worn with purpose, the durag becomes part of the outfit not underneath it.
Each portrait features a unique backdrop, creating a shifting visual language that mirrors the individuality of the wearer. The bold colors, textures, and lighting reflect how the durag moves across spaces, from home to street, adapting as a personal and cultural emblem.
